Optional content is handled really well in God of War, most of it is polished but you have to go out of your way to go for optional content therefore, the pacing of the story is under your control and the distractions aren't shoved in your face often.Ģ+ hours is definitely too short if you're paying full price. My ideal for an open-world game is currently God of War with: the Lake of Nine being an interesting, varied and evolving gameplay area.
Even that game suffers from filler stuff (undiscovered locations, scavenger chests) with the Skellige region containing the most bloat in unnecessary content. However, I don't have a problem with a game like Witcher 3 where most of the 100+ hours are interesting. It's why I avoid Ubisoft games because I, unfortunately, do like doing everything even if I'm aware it's not fun/meaningful. I prefer to play really good 10+ hour games which allow you to feel complete when you finish them, as opposed to an open-world game (and all suffer from this to some extent) where you have a core 20-40 hour experience with filler content overstaying its welcome. So, I would be extremely reluctant to buy multiple 50+ hour experiences in a row.
